How to apply makeup

There’s no specific way on how to apply makeup but there are loads of tips and tricks you can employ to get the best outcome.

How to apply makeup is an art. Just as artists have their brushes and palettes, women have their brushes and cosmetic collections. Painters create masterpieces on paper or canvas, women enhance their beauty and create an illusion of perfection. Learning the many techniques on how to apply makeup is easy. Just remember that your makeup must always suit the occasion. Or if it’s just an ordinary day at the mall, please do refrain from going out wearing makeup as if you’re a hooker way too early for her shift.

True, makeup can do wonders for a woman’s looks. But in order to achieve that, you must learn how to apply makeup for your specific face type, skin tone and yes, the occasion. Keep in mind that it’s not all about the brand of makeup you use but on how you use it. Just as a painter already has it in his mind what he wants to paint, you must also have an idea of the kind of look you’re going for – sultry, natural, classy or even the character you’re portraying for a costume party.

The models on magazine covers and billboards are not as perfect as they seem to appear. That’s mainly the illusion of perfection that makeup can do to anyone, even to the ordinary looking.

To put on makeup, always remember to start with a clear skin.

How To Apply Foundation

Start off with applying a moisturizer or a primer compatible to your skin type as this will help even out the foundation and keep your makeup on for longer hours. Let your skin absorb the moisturizer or primer for a few minutes then wipe off any excess using a tissue. Using a damp makeup sponge or your fingers, put some dots on your forehead, nose, chin and the eyes. Spread the foundation, preferably with your fingers as the heat caused by skin friction will help spread it out better.

How To Apply Eyeshadow

Eyeshadow is usually comprised of three colors – the base, the main and the highlight. Applied first is the base color which goes to the eyelids, the main color, and then the highlight in the crease of the eyes. Again, it’s advisable to use a primer first since aside from keeping the makeup on longer, it also makes the end result smoother. For your highlight color or the shimmer, be careful that it brings out the color of your eyes, but doesn’t bring out the wrinkles and other lines. In choosing eyeshadow colors, keep in mind that dark colors deepen the eyes while lighter colors make your eyes stand out.

How To Apply Eyeliner

Considered as the most important part of your eye makeup, the eyeliner can be applied in various ways depending on the kind of look you’re aiming for. If you’re aiming for the hooker look or give Captain Sparrow a run for his money, then by all means knock yourself out with too much eyeliner. Now, eyeliners must be applied first on the upper lid by tilting your head backwards so you can watch what you’re doing. Next step will be to apply the eyeliner from the inside of the eyes going outwards – be careful to draw the line as close to the eyelashes as possible. Finally, draw eyeliner on the bottom of the eyelid and wait for the eyeliner to dry for about half to a full minute.

How To Apply Mascara

There are different types of mascara suitable for different looks. Aside from that, there are also different mascara products such as for lengthening or for volume. Once you already have the desired look you’re aiming for, start off with an eyelash curler on your upper lashes. When applying the mascara, keep it as close to the skin as possible so as to maintain its natural-looking shape. Don’t forget to comb your mascara so they get all separated, which must be done before it dries out. To make eyelash appear longer, apply a second coating.

How To Apply Lipstick

Choose the shade of lipstick you want. Again, it has to complement the theme of the makeup, the look you’re aiming for – bloody red, natural or sweet looking. Make sure you get the same shade or something closer for the lip liner as well. Avoid big color contrast, that’s just sad, if not funny.

You can opt using a blush-on to enhance your cheekbones or to give you a tinge of blush on your apple cheeks.

Your makeup is your armor in facing the world. But sometimes, it is way better to face the world and render them entranced with a face void of any illusion.
